Formed in the Deep South in the early ’90s and seasoned on both Gulf Coast back porches and Pacific shores, Salty Papa blends Southern soul grit with laid-back California surf vibes.

Though rooted in Southern California, Salty Papa’s story runs deep through the South. Guitarist and bandleader Felix Wohlleben calls New Orleans home, while drummer and vocalist Tim Petersen sharpened his chops in Alabama playing behind blues legend Johnny Shines. Bassist Chris Goldsmith, a founding member of SoCal trop-rock favorites Borracho Y Loco, locks in the groove, and keyboardist Casey Gee, a fixture of the San Diego music scene, adds warmth and vintage flair.

Often layered with tight harmonies, punchy horns, and driving percussion, the band serves up Southern-fried soul with sun-soaked California cool—equal parts Mardi Gras parade and beach BBQ.

During the pandemic, Salty Papa bottled their live energy on the compilation Now You Know, recorded at Salty Headquarters and streaming everywhere.

From soul to blues to rock ’n’ roll, Salty Papa serves it up hot—rich, rhythmic, and well-seasoned.
